Tragic Tuesdays: Tunes

I don't know about where you are, but for (at least) the last two weeks here in Philadelphia it's been well over 90 degrees.  Well over. Easily.  Do you know what that means?  Heatwave and all the grossness and terrible things that come with it.

In honor of these horrible 90 degree days (that are usually coupled with 80% humidity) I give you one of my favorite summer-time songs:  Summer In the City, by Lovin' Spoonful.

Straight out of Billboard's Top 100 of  August 1966.  It reached number one, naturally.  I love the series of car horns during the instrumental bridge that ends up with a jackhammer sound.  All they're missing are some sirens (correct me if I'm wrong, and not hearing them.) and it would really feel city-ish.

One of my friends told me that the keyboardist for this song also played with the Doors at some point in his career.  (Hey, Mike, if you're reading this, feel free to chime in with the details on that tidbit.)

...but at night it's a different world, go out and find a girl, come on, come on and dance all night, despite the heat it'll be alright, and babe don't you know it's a pity, the days can't be like the night, in the summer in the city...
